Wireless Race Car Scales with All the Features You Need for A Proper Setup
There’s no question that racing takes skill, but it also takes a well sorted and properly setup race car to get you to that winner’s circle. Be it circle track racing, drag racing, or road racing, a chassis and suspension that isn’t optimized is going to be slower and less predictable than one that is. Part of any proper chassis and suspension setup is scaling a race car with a set of car scales. Often referred to as corner weight scales, these automotive scales provide more than just corner weights. Readings like cross weight, bite, front to rear weight, and total weight are equally important and the only way you’re going to get those is with “corner scales.” While the typical truck stop or drag strip scale will provide total weight, that is not nearly enough for cars that see circle track or road racing use with adjustable coilover suspensions and other adjustable chassis components.

What we’ve concentrated on with our Sportsman wireless scales is building a quality scale that is highly accurate, which is what racers want. Most enthusiasts are willing to trade features for functionality and accuracy, but with Speedway Motors’ Sportsman wireless scales you don’t have to. Featuring an accuracy of 0.5% of applied weight (or ± 1 graduation, whichever is greater) for precise weight measurements, whether you're a weekend racer or a pro chassis builder. Our scale's accuracy will even compenste for minor surface inconsistencies. If one of the scale's four load cell pads is not making complete contact with the floor it will average the remaining three pads for that corner scale's reading. This level of precision and accuracy helps to optimize handling, balance, and tire wear by providing accurate corner weights for you to make educated adjustments from.
Sportsman mobile scales offer a total weight capacity of 7,000 pounds (1,750 lb. per scale pad) and connect wirelessly to the provided easy to use controller interface that displays all weights, including front to rear, left to right, and cross weight percentages, plus bite (left rear minus right rear) on one easy to read LCD display. Powered by three AA batteries per scale pad and controller (alkaline batteries included) the four aluminum scale pads, controller, and extra batteries you provide all store in the compact aluminum storage/travel case.
Large Light Weight Aluminum Race Car Scales Provide Ample Surface Area
While some automotive scales are only 10x10 or perhaps 12x12, our Sportsman scales have a generous 15x15 inch surface area. This larger surface area ensures stability in use as well as accurate weight measurements by maximizing tire contact patch to scale pad contact. The cast aluminum scale pads weigh just 7.50 lbs. each, making them easy to lift out of the storage case via the integrated grab handle and place at each tire without much effort at all. The scale pads feature a textured matte gray powder coat finish, which offers a no-slip contact for handling the scales as well for your tire placement.
Each scale is labeled for position (LF, RF, LR, RR) with large corner indicators and incorporates a multi-color LED indicator directly above the corner indicator that aids in communication and connection with the controller. The LED also provides scale pad battery end of life indication as well. Each pad’s battery level is fully displayed on the controller too. We do recommend lifting the vehicle to place the scale pads under the tires or using commercial ramps or homemade ramps. These scale pads are not designed for driving directly onto the scale pads, even with their short 1.40-inch height, as you may damage the scale pad’s load cell, leading to inaccurate readings or no reading at all.
Wireless Operation Means Fast Setup and No Tripping Hazards
Traditional wired scales use data cables to connect the four scale pads to the display. These cables are fragile and often create connectivity issues with intermittent connections at the scale pads or display, or a break in the cable somewhere from being stepped on or driven over. Then there’s always the trip hazard of these four data cables running all over the shop floor, not to mention the additional time it takes to run the cables and connect them, or even to coil them up and store them with your scales. Today, wireless is the way to go, provided it is a robust and reliable system. Our Sportsman wireless scales are indeed dependable and ready to serve your race program for many years to come.
Our Sportsman wireless car scales are easy to setup and use immediately. When stored in their case in a vertical/upright position the scales are “sleeping.” Simply remove the controller from the composite and aluminum storage case first and turn the display on. Then remove each scale from the storage case’s foam lined insert and place them in the correct location on the ground. When the scales are placed horizontally on the ground they will turn on automatically and connect to the controller. The built in LED indicators will alert you to their connection status. Initially a slow yellow blink to indicate the scale pads are waiting to connect to the controller. Once all four scale pad LED lights show a slow green blinking display, you’re ready to go! An alternating red/yellow LED light flash indicates the AA batteries for that scale pad are end of life and require replacing (or charging if you opt to use rechargeable batteries).
An Easy to Use and Understand Scale Controller with Backlit LCD Display
Placing four car scales and getting your race car onto said wireless race car scales is not hard, but many automotive scales make reading and understanding the vehicle scale output tougher than it needs to be when scaling a race car. Our Sportsman wireless scales come with a feature rich, yet easy to use and understand 6.50 by 4.50 inch controller that is only 1.25 inches thick. The LCD display measures 5.50 inches diagonally and provides all the critical information from your corner weight scales on a single screen, minimizing button presses and giving you all your critical vehicle scale data to review without complicating things using a simple graphic layout.
You’ll find each corner weight, percentages like cross weight, front to rear, and left to right, plus your total vehicle weight, bite, and battery status indicators for each of the corner scales and the controller itself. A simple set of four buttons allow you to zero the scales before applying weight, display weights in pounds or kilograms, turn on or off the backlight display, and of course power on/off the controller. The backlighting is a notable feature for low light use and includes three light modes (low, medium, and high) and defaults to off on startup to conserve battery life.
